Tempeh Typeface

Type Design
Visual Design

Tempeh is a reverse-contrast typeface intended for display purposes. The typeface is inspired by chisel-edged marker notes with an added pinch of funky umami!

This typeface was created under the guidance of Graham Bradley at Letterform Archive as a part of their type design course. I strongly recommend trying it out if you have the chance and are into type design!

I love funky type!

Chizel-edged marker notes helped guide my first drafts of this typeface.

The sketch that sparked the idea of a reverse-contrast typeface.

Once I had the initial idea, I hand-wrote out all of the letterforms in a couple of variations each to see how a chisel-edged marker behaved and what I could incorporate digitally.

Then came the critique process, iterating and altering the letterforms for legibility based on feedback.

Tiger Matcha

What is cooler than a hand-made typeface? A matcha brand that uses a tiger as a part of their logo.

Mellow Matcha

Another matcha brand. I know. But this typeface suits all matcha-related branding.
